A few days of knocking was enough to put a few more holes in my already shot piping and when the back box nearly fell off I thought it was time for a new one and decided to invest in a stainless steel exhaust as they do not rust.
Having spoken to the guys at Interpro Automotive in Thornbury, who have already done lots of work on my car, I took their recommendation of Infinity Exhausts, phoned Martin and booked it in for a new system.
Saturday 5th March was the day of the build, so I drove down to Weston-Super-Mare early so they can start working on it at 9 am. Arriving at 9 am on the dot, we left the car to cool down for an hour (exhausts get VERY hot) then it was time to take the old exhaust off.
It didn't take any time to remove the old one - it practically fell off. Luckily the front section was in better condition as they were able to reuse the mounting flange. The underside of the car looks so dirty but it is mainly salt.
First job was to build a muffler. Measuring up for size, they took a 1.5-foot long tube by 5-inch diameter and welded on a plate then, once filled with muffler parts, welded on the other end and made a polished 4" jap style tip. Nice.
Next was to make the midsection, taking 2" T304 grade tubing and cutting it to length, then bending it to fit the exhaust path of the underside.
In total the job took two and a half hours (which includes an hour for cooling off)
Very pleased with the result and the quality of work and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable.
I would recommend Infinity to anyone looking for a custom exhaust. They can produce a wide variety of muffler tips, and fit an exhaust to any specification you can think of.
