First Moffat Astronomy Photos

It's been a while since I've been out under the stars, but tonight I took out my camera and photographed some of the stars and the moon from my own dark sky area for Moffat Astronomy.

I only had my photography camera tonight and was holding it by hand, but I was still able to get some good photos from my back garden just outside Moffat. These two are the Moon and Venus with a tree in silhouette.

Hopefully, this is the start of many more Moffat Astronomy photography, now that I have found my own little dark sky area, free from light pollution!

Moffat is good for Astronomy due to its rural location and the local council have replaced all the street lighting with the new energy-efficient, dark sky friendly LED lighting.

Moffat is a 'dark skies town'.I was there last December but sadly it was cloudy with the odd break. Galloway Forest, close(ish)to Moffat and Col, not close to Moffat is also accredited by the international dark skies association as is Kielder Forest which runs along Scotland's southern border with Northumberland, England, but it's all in England.
