I went with the Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires as they have really good reviews and my brother in law has used them in the past and really highly regards them. Although in short supply at the moment, I was able to get a set from Black Circles at a very good price.
I've also fitted some Terrafirma bumperettes on the rear to help protect the aluminium body corners which can get damaged really easily. I found a bargain on eBay and got the pair ex-display for less than half the price of a new set. They were fitted really easily once the old bolts had been removed, a process which took most of the day.
Starting to look like a proper Land Rover now!
I've just purchased a D 90 Wagon and should be receiving it in a few days as its coming from Georgia. You've owned one and I would love to hear how it is. Is it a daily driver? Is it semi reliable? I have a lifted FJ Cruiser with racks and snorkel and 35" tires which I use as my daily driver. 110,000 miles and never an issue. Would love to hear about what its like owning a Defender. I drove H1 hummers for 12 years and loved it except the outrageous repairs .
